Hard Questions {Contest Entry}

Bree: "Hey Kass, why have I never met your dad?"
Kass: "..."
Bree: "Is he dead?"
Kass: "No... he's just... not around."
Bree: "Oh. That's sad."
Kass: "Not really. It's better if he stays away."
Bree: "Why?"
Kass: "That's... it's complicated."
Bree: *deflated* "Oh..."
Kass: "Hey, all that matters is I have a mother who loves me with all her heart. Who my dad is makes no difference."
Bree: "I guess."
*silence for a moment*
Bree: "Kass?"
Kass: "Yes, sweetheart?"
Bree: "Do you miss him?"
Kass: "...No."
Bree: "Oh."
Kass: *sighs* "Bree, my dad isn't like your dad. He's not a nice person. He really hurt my mom, and me."
Bree: *looks up* "Did he give you that scar?" *points to her face*
Kass: "Yes. Not intentionally, but it was a result of his poor decisions."
Bree: "Is that why you don't want to see him?"
Kass: "Partially."
Bree: "What-?"
Kass: "The rest of it is something my mother and I keep private."
Bree: "Oh. Okay."
Kass: "There we go, all done. Shall we go to the park?"
Bree: "Yeah..."
Kass: *pulls Bree to face her* "Don't worry about me, okay? What my dad did is in the past, and he can't hurt me anymore. What's important is the family I have now."
Bree: "Okay." *pauses* "Kass?"
Kass: "Yes?" 
Bree: "Can we get ice cream at the park?"
Kass: *chuckles* "Of course, sweetheart. Anything you like today."

My first entry for Looji 's contest. I want to do some others because I'm really enjoying this
Characters in this scene are her character, Bree, and my OC Kaspian. The headcanon I have is that Kass' mom is really close with one of Gerret's sisters, and so Kaspian spends a decent amount of time around Gregory and Bree :3

In this particular picture I'd say they're about 7 and 19 years old respectively.

I'm really excited to get Kass' full reference up - her story has been really fun to develop.

**fun little side note: all the books on Kass' shelf have proper titles**
